Hi to all the future brides, maid of honours, bridesmaids and many others looking on this site.

Let me do a quick introduction before delving into the fun of planning! My name is Kate and future hubbys (FH) is Andrew. Andrew and i first met nearly 4 years ago when two friends thought it would be a good idea to introduce us! Time sure knows how to fly on by...

Nearly a year ago Andrew and i decided it was time to make a commitment and move out together, was extremely exciting and nerve wracking to say the least. Moving out is a big step but moving out, changing jobs and moving states is one big scary thing. We survived though and are going strong

In December Andrew popped the question, i knew it was coming but had no idea when. We had gone out for the day and the poor thing waited til the afternoon to ask. He had been patting his pocket all day making sure the ring was still there and i hadnt noticed! It was such a special moment. We were picking our dream house while at a wharf and before i knew it we were engaged.

We have started planning THANKFULLY. Im finding that it is really difficult planning a wedding long distance. People are really helpful, friends and potential suppliers but its still not quite the same as being in the same place that you are planning. Im thankful for technology - without emails i dont think i would survive!

Im planning on writing a few tips in these posts for people planning long distance and my first is this:
ALWAYS go and check a potential venue (including reception) yourself. We sent out parents along to one place that we liked the idea of and asked them to look around. they thought it was quite nice and booked it for us, after speaking to us. Unfortunately when we looked at it Andrew wasnt so keen so it was back to the drawing tables for us.

Anyway i think this is long enough! Keep your eyes and ears open for the ideas, tips and any screams you might hear from me when planning from afar gets stressful

Me again,

So we finally booked the reception venue. The place we originally wanted was already booked, can you believe it? We are getting married the end of next year so well over 12 months and it's already gone.

We spent an awful lot of time trying to find possible venues. Both Andrew and i really wanted a buffet, we wanted to give our guests the option of what they could have and how much. Neither of us really like the idea of saying you can have this or that to our guests. The buffet really limited our choice.

I think i probably spent 2 weeks (full time not a little bit here and there) looking at various places on the internet, downloading brochures and contacting possible places. My tip: If you are not sure where to have your reception life is made easy by the millions of bridal forums. I know i spent a bit of time just reading posts to see where people were having theirs. From that i was able to investigate further.

We all know (from the post above) that the venue we ended up booking didnt work out. So Andrew and i were back to the drawing table, back to the searching and back to the fun of finding the right place. Luckily we found the right place and we were both happy

we booked at club macquarie, they were the only ones that could provide the food that we were after, as we have a few with diabetes, and celiac disease, and from what we had seen, they were the only ones that cater for them, and place we wanted somewhere where it was close to where we got married so other people didnt have to drive a long way just to get to recption.

we are getting married 17th november 2012, which is 18 months last yesterday, we still gotta get the dj and the cake and wedding cars, well im wanting wedding cars, she wants to use our own cars, but as i say u only do this once, so i wanna go out with style

Wow, we have also set the date for Nov and were looking at Club Macquarie. These were the guys that were booked out when we inquired! They must be popular. Like you we have been careful with the food we select, there are people with diabetes and also heart disease that will be invited.

Im trying to think of bombonieres atm because i refuse to do food. I dont think its fair to the people invited that would receive food as a gift that they cant even eat!

What sort of cars are you after? I would recommend checking out Natalie's Limousines. They have some fantastic cars - Lamborghini, jags and many others!
